Bergen County Audubon Nature Walk At NJBG
dsc03404-bcas-binocs-1409NEW JERSEY – NJBG invites you to explore and enjoy the wonderful world of birds, butterflies and plants on an Audubon Nature Walk at the New Jersey State Botanical Garden on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at 10 a.m. Members of the Bergen County Audubon Society will lead a walk through the gardens, meadows and woodlands at NJBG, visiting a rich and varied ecosystem of plants and animals. This program is free. Wear comfortable shoes and meet at the Carriage House Visitor Center in the New Jersey State Botanical Garden, Morris Road, Ringwood State Park, Ringwood, NJ.  This program is sponsored by the NJBG/Skylands Association and the Bergen County Audubon Society. The New Jersey State Botanical Garden at Skylands, which appears on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places, is open from 8 am to 8 pm every day. Admission to the Garden is always free. Parking fee on summer weekends and holidays: $5/car for NJ residents; $7/car out-of-state.; summer weekday parking is free. Parking is also free in the fall, winter and spring. NJBG/Skylands is located on Morris Road in Ringwood, New Jersey. Ukrainian Festival
CLIFTON, NEW JERSEY – Holy Ascension Cathedral invites all to the annual UKRAINIAN FESTIVAL honoring Nadiya Savchenko and the memory of the victims of Moscow’s aggression. Passaic County To Hold Compost Bin & Rain Barrel Sale
WANAQUE, NJ – On Sunday, September 25, 2016 the Passaic County Office of Solid Waste Recycling Programs will be sponsoring a Compost Bin and Rain Barrel Sale and Education Program at the Wanaque Campus of the Passaic County Community College, 500 Union Avenue, Wanaque (Haskell) from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm, rain or shine.According to Nina Seiden, Passaic County’s Solid Waste & Recycling Programs Manager, composting is nature’s way of recycling, turning all your vegetative kitchen scraps, coffee grinds, tea bags, grass clippings, brown leaves and dead garden plants into rich organic compost. This compost can be used in your vegetable and/or flower gardens while keeping all of the unwanted material out of the landfill. The renowned Earth Machine Compost Bin will be available for purchase at a special price of $55 cash or check including tax (retail value of $100) while supplies last. Additional items for purchase include rain barrels for $75, kitchen scrap buckets, aerators, chicken-wire style holding bins, and more. Those reserving a compost bin for purchase by September 22, 2016 will receive one free kitchen scrap bucket per household. Educational seminars on how to compost, as well as how to utilize a rain barrel effectively to conserve water will be held throughout the event. To reserve your compost bin and/or rain barrel to guarantee their availability the day of the event, please call the Passaic County Office of Solid Waste & Recycling Programs at (973) 305-5738 and give your name, phone number and number of compost bins/rain barrels to be purchased.

 

Oktoberfest – September 25
NEW JERSEY – The Polish American Citizens Club, 29 Kline Blvd., Whitehouse Station will host an Oktoberfest on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 1 to 5 p.m.  Entrance tickets are $20 per person, includes lunch. Additional food items for purchase.  There will be live music, lawn games, cash bar and beer tents. Silver Rose of Our Lady of Guadalupe
NEW JERSEY – Sunday, September 25: The Silver Rose of Our Lady of Guadalupe Devotion and Prayer Vigil, 3-4 pm, at Our Lady of Mt. Passport Day In Passaic County

Feast of St. Theresa at Holy Face Monastery
CLIFTON, NEW JERSEY – Please join in the celebration of the feast of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus at Holy Face Monastery on Monday, October 3, 2016. Billy Joel Tribute Band – October 1

Lakewood Library to Host Free U.S. Citizenship Prep Classes For Adults
LAKEWOOD –    Ocean County Library’s Lakewood Branch, 301 Lexington Avenue, will host a free, seven-session class to prepare people who want to take the test for U.S. citizenship naturalization. The class is appropriate for adults 18 years and older who have lawful and continuous permanent residency in the United States for a minimum of five years.  Those attending should have been physically present in the United States for thirty months, with at least three months living in the same state or district. The class will instruct the students on all topics covered by the test for US citizenship, including civics and American history, and offer practice exercises on English reading and written vocabulary. The test itself will not be administered as part of the class.  The test for US citizenship is only administered by US Citizenship and Immigration Services. The class will be held on Wednesdays: October 5, 12, 19, 26 and November 2, 9, 16 at 6:30 pm at the branch. Registration is required because of the limited class size. Francis and the Sultan

NEW JERSEY – Sister Kathy Warren of the Rochester, Minnesota Franciscans will describe the interreligious dialogue that Saint Francis of Assisi carried on with Sultan Malek-at-Kamil in 1219 as they tried to end the Fifth Crusade when she presents Francis and the Sultan at a special conference to be held at Felician University in Lodi, NJ on Saturday, October 15, 2016.  Sister Kathy is a nationally known religious speaker and her lecture will include exploration of ways to build a different world where other people are not “threats” but truly our brothers and sisters. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will conclude with a 3:30 p.m. Saturday Vigil Mass.  The registration fee of $25.00 before September 24 includes lunch.  Late fee or registration at the door is $30.00. Registration before the event is encouraged because those who register at the door may not receive handouts related to the lecture. This event is sponsored by the Franciscan Federation of Region I.  The general public is warmly welcomed to attend.   If you are interested in securing a registration form, please call Sister Mary Virginia at (973) 473-7447 ext 114 and leave a message or e-mail her at sistervirginia@feliciansisters.org.

 

International Food Festival Seeks Vendors
CLIFTON, NJ – The Clifton Centennial Committee is planning a special International Food Festival on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Clifton High School. The Committee is seeking food and non-food vendors to share their food or crafts with our community. There is no charge for the table.
