Poconos’ Wurst Festival Returns July 19 & 20!
Shawnee on Delaware, PA – Come experience the best of the wurst! Shawnee Mountain Ski Area will be hosting its annual Poconos’ Wurst Festival this July 19th & 20th from 11 am to 6 pm both days with all the brews, brats, music and fun you could want.
With both Polish and German themes, the event will feature 3 stages of music, traditional costumed dance performances, pig and “hot dog” races, ethnic craft vendors, the return of the “Bier Stein Olympics”- fun games for adults and plenty of wursts, wieners, kielbasa, pierogies and cold brews. Children’s entertainment will include the Puppen Meister marionette show, Brat Man living statue, rubber duck races, Bavarian juggling shows and face painting.
To be featured in the new Reelz Channel “Polka Kings” reality TV show this fall, The Chardon Polka Band will be headlining the event. Said to be “not your father’s polka band”, the youthful, zany Chardon Polka Band from Ohio returns to the main stage both Saturday and Sunday and the Reelz Channel will be filming the band here at this year’s Wurst Fest. The Austrian Boys, a festival favorite from Connecticut is returning for 2014 and will also perform on main stage both days. Eddie Derwin and the Polka Naturals from the Pennsylvania coal regions as well as local entertainers the Apple Strudel Gang and the One Man Polka Band from New Jersey will join the lineup performing indoors in the Ski Lodge Bier Garten and the Brauhaus Bar. Other entertainment will include Ron von Akkordeon-Darsteller, the strolling Accordion Player, and the HSV Bavaria Dancers from Connecticut on both Saturday and Sunday. Make sure to bring your lederhosen, beir steins and dancing shoes!
New this season for Wurst Fest will be “Old World Sausage Making” presented and demonstrated by Nello’s Specialty Meats of Nazareth, PA. Nello Loiacono, the owner and operator who apprenticed under Master Butcher Guenther “Hank” Schineller will show and educate festival goers how to prepare a variety of sausage products that can be made at home. Nello will also grill up specialty products for taste testing and he’ll have recipes to give out.
The festival will be held rain or shine. Advanced Festival Admission Tickets: Adults $12 and Children ages 5 – 12 $10, age 4 and under FREE, are now on sale. Plenty of FREE onsite parking is provided.
