“An Evening With Art”
NEW YORK –

Film Screening – “Auschwitz Volunteer”
ILLINOIS – The Polish Consulate General in Chicago, in coordination with its local partners, presents the screening of a Ryszard Bugajski film titled “The Death of Captain Pilecki”. The film tells the story of a heroism that transcends religion, race and time. Captain Witold Pilecki was a Polish intelligence officer during WWII who volunteered for a Polish Resistance operation to get imprisoned at the German Nazi Concentration Camp Auschwitz Birkenau in order to gather intelligence and enable the Polish government-in-exile to inform the Allies about the ongoing Holocaust in occupied Poland. The operation’s outcome was expected to convince the Allies to act on the Pilecki Reports and stop the Holocaust while there was still time. The film also tells the story of Witold Pilecki’s fate at the hands of the Communist government after the end of WWII. The guest of honor during the screenings will be Marek Probosz, the lead actor in the film starring as Witold Pilecki. Q&A with Marek Probosz will follow the screening. Language: Polish with English subtitles. Running time: 85 minutes.

Konsulat Generalny RP w Chicago, we współpracy z partnerami lokalnymi, zaprezentuje w Chicago projekcje filmu pt. “Śmierć Rotmistrza Pileckiego” w reżyserii Ryszarda Bugajskiego. Rotmistrz Witold Pilecki, oficer Polskiego Państwa Podziemnego podczas II wojny światowej, na ochotnika wziął udział w operacji Polskiego Podziemia, w ramach której trafił do niemieckiego nazistowskiego obozu koncentracyjnego i zagłady Auschwitz-Birkenau w celu zebrania informacji, które umożliwiłyby Polskiemu Rządowi na Uchodźctwie przekazanie Aliantom informacji o trwającej w okupowanej Polsce Zagładzie. Oczekiwano, że Raporty Pileckiego skłonią Aliantów do interwencji, która zatrzyma Holokaust. Film opowiada także o losach Rotmistrza Pileckiego po tym, jak po zakończeniu wojny trafił w ręce komunistów. “Hunchback of Notre Dame” Trip Planned
NEW JERSEY –
Join the Clifton Recreation Department for an epic tale of passion and hope. “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” is inspired by the classic Victor Hugo novel and the only stage collaboration between two giants of American musical theater. Music by Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Little Shop of Horrors), lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Pippin). An intimate retelling of the famous love story, with a lush, emotionally rich score and a production that will leave you inspired. Event takes place at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn on Thursday, March 19, 2015. The bus will leave from City Hall at 6:00 p.m. (show time is 7:00 p.m.) and return to City Hall at approximately 10:30 p.m. The fee is $42.00 per person and includes transportation, supervision and the performance. Children under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are limited and on a first come first-served basis. Computer & Electronics Recycling Event
NEW JERSEY – After its successful “After-Holiday” recycling collection, the Passaic County Office of Solid Waste & Recycling Programs has announced the next dates for its 2015 Computer & Electronics Recycling Collection Program: Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21, 2015. Collections will be held from 9 am to 2 pm, rain or shine at the Passaic County Para-Transit Facility, 1310 Route 23 North in Wayne (behind Ski Barn). According to Nina Seiden, Solid Waste & Recycling Programs Manager, almost all types of computer and electronic equipment will be accepted, including monitors, hard drives, printers, keyboards, modems, copier and fax machines, televisions, radios, VCRs and stereo systems, as well as CD players, cell phones and old telephone systems. The program also accepts used inkjet and laser toner cartridges. “By participating in this event, Passaic County residents and businesses will show their support for recycling these items into other useful products, keeping them out of our diminishing landfill space, and prohibiting a variety of toxins, such as lead, mercury, and cadmium from entering our groundwater. “It’s also the law in New Jersey,” Seiden said. “These items can no longer be thrown away in the regular garbage.” The event is free for residents. Pisanki & Palm Weaving Workshops
ILLINOIS – The PMA will offer its annual workshops on the intricate arts of Pisanki, or Polish egg decorating, and Palm Weaving, on Saturday, March 28, 2015, in the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America Social Hall. Pisanki workshop – 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Palm Weaving workshop – 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. Come for the day, and participate in both sessions, or choose only one. Children participating must be at least 8 years old, and parents/relatives must remain with the children. Please note: the workshop fee for all participants is the same, as it includes cost of materials and instructors’ fees. Build-a-sandwich lunch from Kasia’s Deli will also be available.
