And “How To Search For Your Own Ancestry”
NEW JERSEY – The Slavic Club, Certificate in Russian & East European Studies Program and the Department of International Programs are co-sponsoring a lecture, The Polish Community of Wallington, NJ and How to Search for Your Own Ancestry by Dr. Marta Deyrup and Mr. Wojciech Siemaszkiewicz.The presentation will take place on October 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Fahy Hall rm. 236. This presentation will discuss the research that went into completing the book, The Polish Community of Wallington, NJ (Arcadia 2013), and will offer practical advice on how you can start researching your own family genealogy on your own. Wojciech Siemaszkiewicz, a Polish immigrant, is the national director of the Polish American Congress, Northern NJ Division and a librarian at the NYPL. Dr. Marta Mestrovic Deyrup, also from Bergen County, is a Slavic Librarian at Seton Hall University. Please join us for an interesting and informative talk and bring your own questions. Apple Pie Baking Contest
NEW JERSEY – Attention all bakers! Enter the Clifton Recreation Department’s annual Apple Pie Baking Contest on Sunday, October 27 at this year’s HarvestFest. Following the Halloween Parade, the HarvestFest will be held at Main Memorial Park from 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Pies must be homemade and must be registered at the park between 1:00 and 1:30 p.m. Prizes are gift certificates to local grocery stores and will be awarded to the top three pies and consolation gifts will be issued for all entries. Winners will be announced at the main baseball field the day of the event.
Low Cost Cholesterol & Blood Glucose Screening
NEW JERSEY – A low cost cholesterol and blood glucose screening will be held on Friday, October 25, from 9 AM to 1:30 PM at the Clifton Health Department Clinic, 2nd floor in City Hall, 900 Clifton Ave., Clifton. Fasting is not required. Appointments are necessary; please call 973-470-5760 to register for an appointment. The screening is open to residents of Clifton and Little Falls. The cost is $15 per person, or $10 for people 55 years of age or older. Participant will receive immediate results. Both tests are performed by a finger stick. According to the American Heart Association, “Too much cholesterol in the blood is a major risk for coronary heart disease (which leads to heart attack) and for stroke”. High levels of glucose can indicate diabetes, and an early diagnosis as well as controlling glucose levels can help limit the complications of diabetes.
Halloween Spooktacular Science Show

Bobby Valli Performs At St. Stan’s

Beefsteak Fundraiser To Salute Our Veterans
NEW JERSEY – A beefsteak fundraiser in salute of our veterans will be held on Friday, November 8th at the Polish Peoples Home, 1-3 Monroe Street in Passaic. Tickets: $35.00 – catered by Nightingales. 6th Annual Kidz Bowling 4 Kidz
PENNSYLVANIA – The Polish Falcons of America announces the “6th Annual Kidz Bowling 4 Kidz” to be held on Sunday, November 3rd at AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes in Mt. Lebanon. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and bowling starts at 1 p.m. Children of all ages (5-99) can qualify. Need not be a member of a fraternal society to participate. There is no cost to enter the tournament, however, you must have a total of $25 in sponsorships or promised sponsorships prior to entering.
